News About COPA 5 Junior Aviator Program

COPA Flight 5 will be introducing an online sign up for 2010. It will be user friendly and this will be the only means to sign up for our Junior Aviator Fly Days. Please click on the link ”COPA For Kids” above, to get all the information and to download the Parent Waiver form. Download the form, print it, fill it in (make sure to sign it) and bring it with you when you come flying. Please be at the assigned meeting place 20 minutes before your scheduled flight to do the pre-flight paper work and ground school. Click HERE to get to the sign up page. ELT Update: Clarifying What Applies Now

The draft amended regulation remains in the Minister of Transport’s office. I am hopeful that the agreement that was reached with TC officials to permit private aircraft to retain their existing 121.5 MHz ELTs will be reflected in the amended regulation……….Read More.

All Canadian flight crew licences, permits and medical certificates in the current format will expire in the near future. Airline Transport Pilot and Commercial Pilot licences have already been replaced with the new format licence. Current Private Pilots licences will expire on Dec. 31, 2009. So if you haven’t applied for the new format licences, do so today……….Read More

Airspace within 30 nm of Vancouver airport and Whistler Ski Village will be restricted from 29 January until 24 March. It is a complicated structure with varying degrees of restrictions and procedures, all of which could change in the event of a heightened security threat. The Transport Minister’s office has informed COPA that the proposed regulation that would effectively mandate 406 MHz ELTs has not been accepted. Thanks to COPA’s representations as well as contacts by COPA members with their Members of Parliament, Minister Baird came to appreciate that the regulation, as drafted, prevents any available alternative from being acceptable……….Read More

COPA Flight 5 COPA For Kids Fly Day

COPA Flight 5 held its first ever COPA For Kids Flight Day on Saturday 02 May 2009. The weather co-operated and the rains held off until the last flight had landed. We had 89 kids pre-register and we flew a total of 85 kids on the flight day. Seeing the smiles on their faces after their flight, made all the effort worth while. I would declare this COPA For Kids Flight Day a huge success and we plan on doing more in the future. In fact we already have another planned for mid September. There was lots of volunteer help and every-one stepped forward and did a wonderful job in the organization and safety of the day……….Read More
